While you may have wanted the Cubs to change it up due to their ineffectiveness over the course of the last week or so, it will actually be some DL stints that cause a flurry of roster moves ahead of their matchup with the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night.
There are three new guys in the dugout on Tuesday: David Bote, Jen-Ho Tseng, and Rob Zastryzny.
David Bote is replacing Jason Heyward on the active roster. Heyward will hit the 7-day concussion DL after suffering the injury on Sunday night on the very last play of the game. Bote has been up in Chicago once already this year, when he picked up his first career hit in front of his entire family in Colorado. Bote has killed it so far this year in Iowa, and especially since he returned from Chicago. Prior to his 0-4 on Sunday, Bote was 14-28 with 2 doubles and 2 homers and included a 7 game hit streak.
Jen-Ho Tseng will replace Yu Darvish on the roster and make the start on Tuesday night. Darvish came down with an illness soon after his last start and should be back off the 10-day DL in time to make his next start. Tseng has had a rough year so far in Triple-A, putting up an 8.04 ERA and 1.851 WHIP in his 6 starts. He is coming off a season in which he won his second Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Year award and received a September call-up.
Rob Zastryzny also gets the call back up to the bigs, his third consecutive season making an appearance in Chicago. He will be replacing Cory Mazzoni who made a one game appearance in Chicago after he replaced the struggling Luke Farrell. This roster spot seems to be the revolving door bullpen spot that most teams experience throughout the season. Little-Z might be a different situation as he might piggyback Tseng to make Tuesday night’s game a pseudo bullpen game.
