Everyone who knows me knows just how much I love Pedro Strop. The elite reliever came over to the Cubs as a part of the Jake Arrieta deal in 2013 and while he might have been overshadowed by the success of Arrieta for years, Stropy will go down as one of the best relief pitchers in Chicago Cubs history.
Like your child that you stuck up for and watch blossom into the person they are today, we have to watch Strop move on to a new endeavor as he signed a one-year, $1.825 million deal with the division rival Cincinnati Reds. Incentives could push the deal to as much as $3.5 million.
The competitive spirit he brought to the baseball field, his kind and compassionate soul off the field, and the joy and entertainment he took with him wherever he went will be what makes him one of my favorite Cubs of all-time.
Because of Pedro, my hat will always be tilted a little extra to the left.
