A total of 21 players that don’t find a home on the 40-man roster received an invitation to take part in Major League Spring Training. This list comes out every year and typically features a mix of veteran players that were signed to contracts during the offseason and prospects that haven’t needed to be added to the active roster quite yet.
This year’s group is admittedly not as exciting as some other invitees that we have seen in the past. There are several prospects there, but none that can be seen atop any prospect lists and they project more as future depth pieces.

As the spring wears on, some of these guys will get sent back down to minor league camp, some will be released, and there is always an off chance that a guy wins a spot on the Major League roster. That is atypical, but these guys are given the chance for a reason. Most will wind up beginning the year in Iowa and being on standby throughout the season.
