New series alert! Sometimes I want to dump all the important things that have happened recently into one place. For quite some time, that place was my Twitter feed. Now, I seem to tweet FAR too often for anyone’s good.
So here is a pretty simple concept: a post in the middle of the week to update the world on things that I find “important.” Most of it will be Cubs prospect coverage because, well, that’s what is most important to me. It’s got me buzzing, so maybe it’ll get you buzzing as well. Here is the Mid-Week Buzz.
What I’m Reading
• I’ll probably always lead off this section with my Weekly Farm Report over at Cubs Insider. The trade acquisitions absolutely shined last week, proving the system immediately got better earlier this month.
• Alfonso Rivas is one of my favorite players in the system this year, so when I got the chance to interview him when the I-Cubs came over to Columbus last month, I was extremely excited. Rivas was a terrific interview and he is really gunning for that Rizzo-sized gap in the Chicago lineup.
• Two mid-season Cubs Top 30 prospect lists dropped over the last week. One from Baseball America and one from Prospects Live.
What I’m Watching
• Alongside my Growing Cubs co-host, Jimmy, I hopped on The Brew Party recently to discuss the chaos that happened in Chicago during the trade deadline. We talked with Andy Hopper about what this rebuild could look like compared to other rebuilds and our feelings toward Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, and Javy Baez. It’s on YouTube in addition to all the podcast platforms!
• This is how the Pelicans won on Tuesday night…
• And this is how it was called from the booth…
• Alexander Canario cannot be stopped. He’s hit 3 homers in the last 3 days.
• Cristian Hernandez admiring a home run will always get a place here on the Mid-Week Buzz.
• Max Bain is out here dropping devastating hooks early in counts and I’m here for it.
What I’m Tweeting
• Big, big night on Tuesday from some of the very best in the system.
• Danis Correa finally got a well-deserved promotion up to High-A Myrtle Beach!
• It me, future Marquee prospects contributor.
What’s Catching My Eye
• Michael Hermosillo is back in the Iowa lineup after returning from the IL. Once he gets a few games in at the Triple-A level, we should probably expect to see him in the lineup in Chicago. He’s been the best hitter in the system when he’s been healthy, might as well give him a look.
• Good news on Michael McAvene!
