Introducing Prospect Snapshots

I often get questions from Cubs fans regarding prospects both heralded and slept-on. Followers of the major league squad hear names pop up, whether it is on their TV broadcast or on Twitter, and have to make a choice – do they let their knowledge of Prospect X start and stop with that brief encounter? Or do they allow themselves to become overwhelmed using Google to sort through all the different sites that have the in-depth info on Prospect X?

I’ve decided to make that endeavor a little easier on you. I’m going to provide some prospect snapshots on as many Cubs farmhands as possible so that I can give you fans enough knowledge without overloading your brains. The way I will do that is by answering five questions per prospect. They will be the same five questions for each guy and they happen to be the five most common questions I receive on a daily basis.

Who is he? What do the numbers look like? What makes him good? What needs some work? When could we see him in Chicago?

Those five simple questions will guide my alternate version of a scouting report. The hope is that these prospect snapshots will continue on as players develop in their careers, being re-written and referred back to so that you (and me, for that matter) will be able to see how players progress, our opinions change, and their skills improve.

This post will find a home on the main menu of this website, acting as a table of contents of sorts for each of the players I analyze in the days ahead. Any player that gets referenced in other articles moving forward will be hyperlinked directing you to their prospect snapshot. Enjoy!
